Last night, STL’s Josh Galliano took on three chefs and the challenges of Guy’s Grocery Games and emerged victorious, bringing home $20K. The episode pitted four chefs against each other in three different challenges, including cooking a presidential dinner with jelly beans. After besting the other contestants in cooking battles, Galliano took on the final challenge: collecting 10 items from around the supermarket in less than two minutes. The episode will air again on the Food Network on Saturday, July 11 at 3pm.
For this month’s taco of the month at Mission Taco Joint, the chefs seem to have hit upon fusion perfection by teaming up with Qui Tran of Mai Lee. Through their combined efforts, the Pho King taco was born: Vietnamese five spice-roasted pork, avocado, pickled carrots, serrano-cucumber salsa and cilantro on a flour tortilla. Operation Food Search and Feast Magazine have teamed up for July’s Tomato Explosion event, benefitting Operation Food Search’s mission to connect children in need with nutritious meals. This year, 140 restaurants are participating by highlighting one special tomato dish, with options ranging from spaghetti and meatballs at Denny’s locations to Strange Donuts’ Attack of the Killer Tomadones donuts. July 7: Experience one of chef Ben Poremba’s biggest food influences firsthand on Tuesday at Elaia, when his mother will be behind the pass. Poremba has often noted his mother, Rachel, has greatly shaped his view on food and she’ll now demonstrate her skills—she’s also a chef —when she takes over for an evening of fine dining. July 14: In an event that celebrates art in all forms, chef Ben Poremba and Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis have teamed up to present the first dinner in the Feast Your Eyes series on Tuesday, July 14. After beginning the evening with a tour of the museum at 6:30pm, guests will be indulge in a four-course meal inspired by the current exhibitions, including a cobia course inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s “INFINITY-NETS.” Students at the Culinary Institute of St. Louis will be volunteering for the evening as servers, putting their skills to the test.
